’nuff said!

Now onto cool stuff. We talk about:

• Apogee Jam

• Funsky apps like Impaktor

• Do a bit of a rant on metronome apps for iOS.

• Then we talk about the power and the glory of Ampkit for the Mac. Its a beauty way to go. Fully accessible implementing keyboard access, shortcuts and tuff like dat. Very, very efficient and da whole big ting.

Were planning to talk about Accessibility of Reaper for OSX next. …but its another discussion for another good time. For now hit play and hear us ramble. ;)

As mentioned in the last episode we’re revisiting OSX accessibility. We’re joined by jamieTeh of NV Access (a truly professional accessibility hero and tuff like dat and da whole big ting).

It is not just about VoiceOver this time. Its about efficient user interfaces. Some very basic concepts such as:

• Keyboard access

• Keyboard shortcuts

Followed by a bit of good old VoiceOver stuff like:

• Verbosity

As always listen to find out more.

Sincerely,

Yours truly

PS

Speaking of efficiency and keyboard access and tuff like dat you might want to check out this old article by Apple. It hasn’t been updated in a while. In fact implementation of full keyboard access hasn’t been updated in a while. Moreover the so-called full keyboard access gives no access to sidebars and contextual menus. **hint: accessibility@apple.com is awaiting your positive and professional feedback.

Two rather etherial sounding nerds and I (Access Wizard)  talk about Ubuntu 12.04. Covering important stages pertaining to its use:

• Installing the dang thing.

• Using the dang thing.

The rest of the info is available in the actual podcast.

Oh wait… that package thing that is mentioned on the podcast is called:

qt-at-spi:i386

If you’re running 64-bit version of Ubuntu 12.04 and want accessibility for productive tools like Skype then search for the aforementioned package in the Ubuntu Software Centre.  Install and rejoice!

Sincerely,

Yours Truly

First  and foremost Virtual box. On (yes you guessed it!) Mac!

 Advantages:

• Completely inaccessible. Lots of reasons for it so not a problem at all.

• Using those “Caps Lock” or “insert” keys as your screen reader modifier keys might present a challenge too. Good! What does not kill you makes you stronger!

Disadvantages:

None! Its a Mac for crying out loud!

 Virtual Box on Windows.

No advantages nor disadvantages of any sort. It just works. Especially with NVDASR.

VMware. Win & OSX (accessible on both).

Advantages:

• Consistently sluggish on both platforms! Since version 4. Must be a feature. We’re still learning to appreciate it.

Disadvantages:

• VMware on Windows doesn’t require messing with key bindings (so takes some excitement out).

For more details stop trying to make sense of these show notes and just listen to the podcast.

Sincerely,

~ Yours truly
